RACI Matrix
A RACI matrix maps roles to tasks across a workflow or governance plan. R (Responsible) does the work; A (Accountable) owns the outcome; C (Consulted) provides input before the decision; I (Informed) receives output after. The power is in the constraints: each task should have one A, not multiple. Where a matrix shows five As on a single task, the team has identified a clarity problem, and usually a bottleneck.
Assigns Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed to every task.
Responsible / Accountable / Consulted / Informed
When to use this
- When approval chains are slow or unclear, multiple stakeholders believe they hold veto power, or there is a sense of "hot potato" with an initiative.
- When building a workflow from scratch and needing to assign explicit ownership before the process goes live.
- In cross-functional programs where departments such as marketing, legal, brand, product, and comms all touch the same content.
