Content Governance Plan

Content governance is the system that determines how content decisions are made, who owns specific content areas, what standards new content must meet, and what happens to aging content over time. It is the infrastructure behind a program's quality, without it, content that was strategically sound at launch gradually drifts out of accuracy, brand alignment, and relevance. Governance is most urgently needed immediately after a migration or redesign.

The long-term standards and ownership that keep content from decaying.

Who owns it / Who decides / When reviewed / When retired

When to use this

  • After a redesign or migration, to prevent the new content baseline from reverting to pre-redesign chaos.
  • When ownership and accountability for content are unclear at an organizational level.
  • When scheduling a formal content review cycle requires knowing who the accountable owners are across the estate.
