KPI / Measurement Framework
A content measurement framework selects a small set of KPIs, fewer than seven, that form a logical chain from content activity (published pieces, traffic) through engagement (time on page, downloads) to outcomes (leads generated, pipeline influenced) to business impact (revenue attributed, cost savings from self-service). The discipline is choosing metrics that measure what matters, not what is easiest to pull from a dashboard. Vanity metrics belong in the appendix, if at all.
Connects what you track to the business outcomes that justify the work.
Activity → Engagement → Outcome → Business impact
When to use this
- When reporting shows volume of content produced but not the business impact of producing it.
- When setting goals for a new or reset content program, to define what working means before execution begins.
- When making the case for budget or headcount and needing to tie content to business language.
